All patients were treated with dopaminergic medication and met United Kingdom Parkinson’s Disease Society Brain Bank Criteria except that positive family history was not regarded as an exclusion criterion. Patients that were suspected of having possible secondary causes for parkinsonism such as use of neuroleptic agents, and patients meeting criteria for atypical PD syndromes and who had SPECT data available that showed scans without evidence of dopaminergic deficits were excluded.
