Whole blood samples from subjects with Kawasaki disease obtained 36-48 hours after combined treatment with intravenous methylprednisolone (30mg/kg/2h) followed by intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG; 2g/kg for 1 day). Based on Egami score, patients were predicted to be resistant / non-responsive to simple IVIG therapy. The Egami scoring system identifies age, days of illness, platelet count, C-reactive protein and alanin aminotransferase to predict resistance to the IVIG treatment and is highly sensitive and specific in Japanese patients.
