Peripheral blood mononuclear cells stimulated for 9 hours with 40% plasma derived from gram-positive pneumonia patients. Bacterial infection was detected in every sample and all patients showed acute illness, a pulmonary infiltrate or consolidation (detected by a radiologist) and at least one of the following symptoms: Body temperature > 37.8 °C or < 36°C, peripheral white blood cell number > 10 000 ul or < 4500 ul or >15% immature neutrophils. Furthermore patients also revealed two of the following three factors: tachypnea, dyspnea or hypoxemia. Samples were collected within the first day of hospitalization.
Control healthy plasma treated PBMC sample
